Japan's Current Account Surplus Hits 2.28 Trillion Yen in August

Japan's current account surplus fell to JPY 2.280 trillion in August 2023 from JPY 2.772 trillion in July, posting a positive reading for the seventh consecutive month but missing market expectations of JPY 3.091 trillion. Exports dropped 2.6% to JPY 7.894 trillion in August from a year ago, while imports declined 18.2% to JPY 8.643 trillion for a deficit of JPY 7,495 billion. The capital account showed a deficit of JPY 64 billion, while the financial account posted a surplus of JPY 2.988 trillion.
